All About Layering 4
Hi crafty friends! Today I’m showing two cards I created for the Altenew Educator Certification Program “All About Layering 4” course.
The first card I made for my sister who was in need of a little encouragement. She recently returned to work as a full time elementary school teacher. And she’s a full time mom to three kids. Knowing my sister, she’s giving both tasks her undivided attention and is a bit overwhelmed.
To create this card I used the Craft Your Life: Vintage Tapestry project kit. I’ll be honest, this was not the most intuitive stamp set I’ve used from Altenew. But, I absolutely love the flowers it produced! The kit comes with layering stamps, an embossing folder, stencils, and die cuts. First, I stamped the rose and the little blue flower. For the rose I used Buttercream, Pumpkin Pie, Almond Butter and Espresso Crisp Dye Inks. For the little blue flower I used Polar Bear, Icy Water, Winter Lake, Marshland, and Sea Forest Crisp Dye Inks. Next, I used the stencils to create the green vines with little blue flowers. For the stenciling I used Icy Water, Winter Lake, Marshland, Sea Forest, and Mangrove Root. I die cut the flowers and the vines and arranged them into a semicircle. To create the background, I used the largest stencil included in the kit, along with Silver Stone and Industrial Diamond Crisp Dye Inks. I adhered the die cuts using some dimensional foam tape and added some gold sequins. I stamped the sentiment, which was included in the project kit, using Altenew Obsidian Black Pigment Ink.
The second card I created I used the Build a Flower: Candystriped Cosmos from Altenew. Each summer my church plants dozens of Cosmos in the garden beds surrounding the church grounds. They are such pretty and dainty flowers, and I thought the layered stamp did this beautiful flower justice.
This was a very straightforward and simple flower to stamp. For the flower petals I used Mountain Mist, Volcano Lake, Lagoon and Emerald. For the flower center I used Butternut, Pumpkin Pie and Yellow Ochre. And for the stem and leaf I used Limestone, Silver Stone, and Industrial Diamond. To create the background I used some Altenew Embossing Paste mixed with Evening Gray Crisp Dye Ink. The embossing paste is a thick white paste that takes on any color it is mixed with. To mix the paste, I simply smooshed the ink onto my glass mat and mixed the paste around in the ink. I spread the paste across a stencil and let it dry. This method is a great way to add texture and dimension to a card background. I cut the sentiment “Hello” from Altenew’s Signature Words Die Set. To create dimension I cut four of the sentiments and glued each on top of the other and then onto the card background. To complete the card I matted it with the same colored cardstock as the sentiment.
