Blooming Heart
Hello crafty friends! Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. And not because I love chocolate and flowers, but because its a special day to express love and gratitude to my most favorite people. This year I actually completed a valentine for my husband of 20 years. Although my husband is supportive of my hobby, he’s a bit oblivious about the time it takes and the techniques I use to create cards. As far as he’s concerned, I spend time in my happy place, magic happens, and cards are created. This year he was so impressed with his valentine he said he wanted to take it to work and frame it! My heart sang! I’ve only been creating cards a little over a year and it sure felt good to gift him a card he loved.
To create this card I used Spellbinders Blooming Heart December 2022 Large Die of the Month.
First, I die cut the first layer out of light green cardstock I had in my stash. I used Altenew artist alcohol markers in colors Minty Mint and Sweet Leaf from Island Garden Set H to shade the leaves, adding dimension.
Next, I die cut the large and small flower shapes using Tonic specialty paper in colors Burnished Rose, Red Velvet Pearlescent, Luna Silver Pearlescent, and Onyx Black Pearlescent cardstocks. The pearlescent cardstock has a matte shimmer that adds a Iittle bling to the flowers. I assembled the pieces into flowers.
I die cut and layered two additional pieces for each flower out of Neenah 80# white cardstock to add dimension to the flowers. I then adhered the flowers to the green leaves.
I cut a 10 inch by 5 inch card base out of the Onyx Black Pearlescent cardstock and scored it at 5 inches. This created a 5 inch by 5 inch card base.
I ran the front of the card base through my die cut machine using Spellbinder’s Fluted Classics Squares, which embossed the front of the black cardstock. I then adhered the green leaves and flowers to the front of the card in the shape of a heart.
To create the inside of the card I die cut a square out of the Burnished Rose card stock using Spellbinder’s Essential Squares die and adhered it to the card base.
I cut the “Love” sentiment using the Fancy Love die from Simon Says Stamp and Tonic Red Velvet Pearlescent cardstock.
I adhered one additional flower to the inside of the card.
